Terms of Service

Featured Businesses

The Centre for GOOD Travel’s mission is to promote and facilitate travel that gives back to the local community, economy and environment. Our goal is to encourage GOOD, but we are NOT a business accreditation/certification programme. Businesses mentioned on The Centre for GOOD Travel’s website, blog, social media channels, or emails have been collated by The Centre for GOOD Travel representatives based on online information, correspondence, reviews, or on occasion, staff trips. Beyond this, the information is not verified by The Centre for GOOD Travel. Many businesses have not been visited by a member of staff from The Centre for GOOD Travel.

We aim to equip and empower travellers with questions to help them navigate and identify GOOD businesses for themselves. Featured businesses are not always a representation of a direct recommendation, and The Centre for GOOD Travel is not liable for any errors or mistakes made by these businesses. We acknowledge that the concept of doing GOOD is complex and challenging. We foster continued learning and improvement within The Centre for GOOD Travel and we also encourage this among our partner businesses. We share good practices from around the world with businesses through a business newsletter so that they are encouraged to continually learn, reflect and adapt their business practices.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us. We value all feedback. Thank you.

Please read and understand our conditions of booking carefully prior to making deposit payment to The Centre for GOOD Travel for any trip or services. Receipt of a payment will act as a contract between the trip participant and The Centre for GOOD Travel, under the terms laid out in:

  1. These booking conditions
  2. The trip information on the specific trip web page and welcome pack

Your booking contact is with The Centre for GOOD Travel Ltd (NZBN: 9429030334571)

By making a payment to The Centre for GOOD Travel, you signify that you have read and accepted our terms and conditions.

Prices

Our trip prices are subject to variable pricing, which is standard practice within the travel industry. This means our trip prices may vary at any time in accordance with demand, market conditions and availability. It is possible that different passengers on the same trip have been charged different prices.

Prices are based on exchange rates as of the time the trip is opened for booking; note that prices may vary depending on which currency the booking is made. We endeavour to ensure that all pricing and other information on our website is accurate. However, it is always possible that, despite our efforts, there may be times when obvious errors occur such as the price or some other detail displayed being incorrect. We reserve the right to amend advertised prices at any time prior to us sending your booking confirmation.

We reserve the right to impose surcharges up to 90 days before departure due to increases in local operator costs, taxes, or if government action should require us to do so. In such instances we will be responsible for any amount up to 5% of the trip price and you will be responsible for the balance. If any surcharge results in an increase of more than 10% of the trip price you may cancel the booking within 14 days of notification of the surcharge and obtain a full refund. Please note that a surcharge may be applied to a purchase made by credit card.

Group Trip Deposits

The Centre for GOOD Travel group trip deposits are non-refundable. We offer “Lifetime deposits” if travellers wish to transfer their deposit to another group trip (available up until 60 days before departure).

For all group experiences, The Centre for GOOD Travel requires a minimum $500 USD deposit to confirm a place on the trip.

Independent Trip Deposits

For independent itineraries, we require a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total trip cost.  No reservations are made until a deposit has been received.

The 25% deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances as work has been done to arrange and secure your independent itinerary. If you are unable to travel due to government travel restrictions and/or border controls and with permission from suppliers, we will allow the deposit to be put towards future travel, but otherwise the life-time deposit policy does not apply for independent trips.

Any additional supplier deposits that are required will be advised and also collected in advance as required.  Final payment is due at least 60 days prior to your departure. Any reservations made within 60 days of departure will require full payment at the time of booking, therefore failure to make your payments in time could result in the cancellation of your booking.

Final Payments

Final payment for trips is required 60 days prior to departure whether paying by lump sum or on a payment plan. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled and cancellation charges below apply.

We accept payments through our WeTravel booking platform. You can choose to pay using credit card, which incurs a fee, or by direct deposit via the WeTravel system which doesn’t not incur fees.

Cancellation by you

If you cancel your booking, the cancellation terms set out below apply. A cancellation must be made in writing and the cancellation fee is determined by the date the written cancellation notice is received by The Centre for GOOD Travel.

  • 60 days or more prior to departure - deposit is held as credit
  • 30 - 59 days -  we charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the total booking cost
  • Less than 30 days - we charge a cancellation fee of 100% of the total booking cost.

If you leave a trip for any reason after it has commenced, we are not obliged to make any refunds for any unused services. We will not pay any discounts or refunds for missed or unused services (activities, accommodation, meals or any other unused service) which were missed or unused by you due to no fault of The Centre for GOOD Travel or its suppliers. This includes any termination of the traveller’s participation in the trip due to the traveller’s own fault, negligence or breach of these terms.

The above cancellation terms are in addition to fees which may be charged by accommodation, activity, transport or other providers.

Terms and conditions regarding flight refunds/changes are governed by the terms outlined by our partner travel agents and/or airlines.

Cancellation by us

Our group trips are guaranteed to depart once we have met the minimum group size which is stated on the trip web page. If the minimum number of travellers is not met by 90 days prior to the departure date, the trip will be cancelled. In this case, any payments made by travellers including deposits will be refunded or transferred to another trip.

The Centre for GOOD Travel and our partners reserve the right to cancel or amend any element of the trip in the case of unusual or unforeseen circumstances outside of The Centre for GOOD Travels control. For example, weather conditions, strikes not allowing operation or putting it at risk, sudden inaccessibility of route, unexpected health and safety concerns, etc.

In case The Centre for GOOD Travel is required to cancel an element of the trip, an alternative solution will be proposed where possible. In case no alternative is feasible, expenses that have already been incurred will not be refunded, but any expenses not yet incurred will be refunded.

Itinerary Changes

All itineraries created by The Centre for GOOD Travel are subject to change if required as a result of unforeseen circumstances. If an itinerary needs to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances, The Centre for GOOD Travel will make every effort to keep the route as close as possible to the original and to use similar quality accommodation and/or activities. These changes are at the discretion of GOOD Travel and the Trip Leader/Guide on group trips and any costs incurred as a result will be the responsibility of the traveller. If for any reason the trip has to be cut short, The Centre for GOOD Travel will refund the portion of the trip that was missed. The value of the refund will be calculated on the per diem cost of the tour multiplied by the number of days missed.

For independent itineraries, any changes to your itinerary must be requested in writing and are subject to a change fee of $100. The Centre for GOOD Travel does not guarantee that requested changes will be possible and reserves the right to reject the requested change due to lack of availability or supplier terms. Additional fees charged by suppliers may also be charged and you will be advised of these charges at that time.

Inclusions and Exclusions

Inclusions may vary for each The Centre for GOOD Travel trip, as outlined in the trip specific web page and welcome pack for each specific trip.

Optional activities not included in the trip price that are arranged by The Centre for GOOD Travel are also subject to our terms and conditions. Activities arranged by external third parties are not governed by this contract.

You accept that any assistance, recommendations or advice given by your group leader or local representative in arranging optional activities (including before or after a trip) does not render us liable for them in any way. The contract for the provision of that activity will be between you and the activity provider.

COVID-19 and Trips

In order to best protect our travellers, trip leaders, partners and communities we visit, we strongly encourage all travellers to have up to date COVID-19 vaccinations before joining our group experiences.

We require all travellers to have travel insurance and strongly encourage COVID-19 coverage. If a traveller tests positive for COVID-19 and wishes to continue on their trip, they will be required to take additional precautionary measures to prevent transmission and protect other travellers.

Precautionary measures may include but are not limited to wearing a mask, maintaining physical distance from other travellers when in enclosed spaces and opting out of some activities if they are considered high risk for transmission. These specific measures will be discussed with the traveller to find a reasonable compromise however travellers are required to adhere to the trip guide’s instructions in order to best protect the wellbeing of the whole group.

All travellers are required to sign a legal waiver confirming you acknowledge you are travelling at a time where you may be exposed to the COVID-19 virus, and you are responsible for your own health and wellbeing, and for any additional costs or changes to their trip as a result of COVID-19 related issues. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure your safety and may require you to follow additional safety protocols on your trip in alignment with country-specific regulations and guidelines, or due to any other factors relating to the specific trip. Any specific requirements or recommendations will be communicated via our legal waiver and/or traveller Welcome Pack.

Flights

Most The Centre for GOOD Travel trips exclude international flights. Check your trip details for a list of what is and isn’t included in your trip fee.

Terms and conditions for any flights included in your trip are governed by the terms outlined by our partner travel agents and/or airlines.

The Centre for GOOD Travel is not responsible for delayed flights or missed connections.

Travel Documents and Insurance

All trip participants must be in possession of a valid passport (with at least 6 months validity from the end of trip date), any necessary visas and evidence of any required vaccinations. This is the responsibility of the individual trip participant. In the case of travellers under the age of 18, this responsibility is that of the traveller’s legal parent or guardian.

Trip participants must obtain adequate and valid travel insurance. This is compulsory for all The Centre for GOOD Travel travellers and is a condition of booking. The Centre for GOOD Travel strongly recommends trip participants take out insurance as soon as their booking is confirmed. The Centre for GOOD Travel is not associated with any insurance provider and is not responsible for any policies or decisions made by these external providers.

Any information or advice given by The Centre for GOOD Travel on visas, vaccinations, climate, clothing, baggage, special equipment, etc is given in good faith but without responsibility on the part of the company.

Minimum age

For the majority of our group trips, the minimum age is 18 at the time of travel, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis.  All travellers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian, or in lieu of a legal guardian, by an escort over the age of 18, appointed by their legal guardian. The legal guardian or their designee will be responsible for the traveller under the age of 18’s day to day care, and be responsible for signing and adhering to their legal waiver. If a legal guardian elects to designate an escort in their lieu, they will be required to complete and sign a relevant document, to delegate their authority.

We have no upper age limit though we remind you that some activities on our trips can be physically demanding and travellers must ensure that they are suitably fit to allow full participation. We can provide details on mandatory health requirements for activities, or estimations of the levels of physical fitness needed for the trip; however, we are not medical experts and do not give medical advice. It is your responsibility to ensure that you obtain proper and detailed medical advice at least two months prior to travel for the latest health requirements and recommendations for your destination.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about your trip please inform your trip leader or our Trips Coordinator at the time so that they can attempt to rectify the matter. If you believe that your complaint has not been resolved through these means then any further complaint should be put in writing to us within 30 days of the end of the trip via email to info@good-travel.org

In these terms, ‘force majeure’ means any event that has an impact on your group trip which we or the other operator (where relevant) could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid. Such events may include war or threat of war, riots, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, pilferage, epidemics, pandemics, forced quarantine, medical or customs regulations, riot, fire, storm, flood, explosion, compliance with any law or government restraint order, rule regulation, strikes, lock outs, breakdowns, interruption of transport, or any other cause whatsoever outside The Centre for GOOD Travel's reasonable control. We reserve the right to cancel, amend or reschedule your group trip during or following any force majeure and if we do so you agree that we will have no liability to you for any direct or indirect consequences of the cancellation, amendment or rescheduling.

Authority on group trips

Our froup trips are generally run by a representative of The Centre for GOOD Travel, a local guide, and/or a partner trip leader. The decision of the designated trip leader is final on all matters likely to affect the safety or well-being of any traveller, staff member or in-country partner. If you fail to comply with a decision made by the trip leader, interfere with the well-being of the group or our ability to run a trip as planned, the trip leader may direct you to leave the trip immediately, with no right of refund. We may also elect not to carry you on any future trips booked. You must at all times comply with the laws, customs, foreign exchange and drug regulations of all countries visited.
